Christmas Comforts and Joys Kicks Off with Festive Tree Lighting

Join us when Alfriston’s Christmas season will kick off this year with a tree-lighting event leading up to another wonderful Comforts and Joys celebration over the weekend of 5-6 December.

The tree lighting will take place on Saturday, 28 November, when Father Christmas is set to illuminate the village tree at 4pm. Full timetable of Events in pdf format here.

He’ll be helped by the winner of Comforts and Joys’ ‘Hats Off to Santa’ competition, co-sponsored by Sussex Life Magazine: Children aged 12 and under are invited to enter it by drawing a special hat for Santa. Details are available by clicking here, or in a flyer available at local merchants. The winner will also receive a ticket for four to enjoy a day at Drusillas Park.

The Comforts and Joys weekend itself will include a variety of free events put on by local merchants and community groups. In addition, the road in front of the village store will be closed on each afternoon, allowing for a variety of events ranging from bagpipe playing to an appearance by the popular Salvation Army Band.

We’ll post details as and when we can. But you can look forward to the delicious Pudding Paradise, with hundreds of desserts created by local eateries on offer Sunday afternoon; making wishes with the Snow Queen, who will hang them on the village tree; horse and wagon rides; and a wonderful school fair with Santa’s Grotto.

A brochure about the event will be available soon from your favourite Alfriston merchant. Or come back to this site for updates.
